Accelerating the meaningless megapixels arms race to ridiculous new heights, Nokia has loaded a massive 41 megapixel snapper in its latest smartphone, for billboard sized prints. The monster camera has 1080p Full HD video recording abilities too and is accompanied by 1.3GHz CPU and four inch display with a multimedia friendly 16:9 aspect ratio. The only blemish on the Pure View is its reliance on the clunky old Symbian Belle OS. Out in 2012

As its name suggest the optimus 4X HD is LG's first foray in the era of super-fast quadcore smartphones - beware quadruple power will be a big theme this year. Loaded with a HD display it is a powerhouse of weapons-grade tech with a 1.5GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 quadcore CPU, 4.7in 1280x720p IPS True HD display, 1GB of RAM and an ample 16GB of storage.

The Japanese TV king rejoined the european smartphone market last month with the unveiling of the original Panasonic Eluga an OLED-toting smartphone with a name like a cut-price tequila brand. However the Eluga's sibbling is an eye catcher. A mighty beast of a handset, it boasts 1.5GHz Qualcomm S4 dualcore processor, Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS and an eight-megapixel camera. The 8GB storage is disappointing but the 5in 720p HD LCD screen is the kind of finery you'd expect from telly royalty. Price tag $695

The Ascend D continues to trump the iPhone with a 4.5in screen and 1280x720p resolution with in-plane switching (IPS) for wider viewing angles. 
The resolution means you get 330 pixels per inch compaired to the Retina display piffling 326. Its coming out in 2012.
