Koenigsegg road cars have always had one mission, which the automaker sums up quite succinctly, “be the overall fastest cars on the planet – around a racetrack or elsewhere.”

The firm’s latest megacar – the 1,500hp Regera hybrid – sets an equally high precedent. A listing for one of the first production models appeared at the UK’s SuperVettura Sunningdale, a Koenigsegg authorized dealership, with a price tag of €2,100,000 (around $2.37 million at today’s rates). Although,… it won’t be ready for pickup until Dec. 1, 2016.
Despite that long wait, there are a multitude of reasons why a Regera megacar might be desired. For one, it’s a hybrid. It can putter around short distances in full EV mode and even tacks on a feature that calculates the distance to your arrival and fully depletes the battery over that distance in order to minimize fuel consumption to the extreme.

The Regera funnels the power from its twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8, mixes it with the instant torque from its three onboard electric motors, and outputs over 1,500 horsepower to the rear wheels.Koenigsegg has already revealed the Regera will go from standstill to 250 mph in 20 seconds.
All totaled, Koenigsegg will build a scant 80 examples of the Regera, all likely to carry similarly sky-high price tags.
